Understanding the New York EBT Card

The New York EBT Card functions similarly to a debit or credit card, loaded with food stamps and/or cash benefits. It's accepted at authorized stores. Upon approval for benefits, you'll receive this card. For assistance, contact New York's EBT customer service at 1-888-328-6399.

Applying for Food Stamps

The most straightforward method to apply for food stamps is online through the myBenefits portal. Alternatively, you can apply in person by reaching out to your local Department of Social Services (DSS) office or calling the New York SNAP hotline at 1-800-342-3009.

Renewing Your Food Stamps

It's crucial to renew your food stamps before your certification period ends, which typically ranges from 6 to 12 months for most New York households. Confirm your specific certification period with your caseworker.

EBT Deposit Schedule

Your EBT deposit date depends on if you live in New York City or if you live in another part of New York State. They load benefits on different dates. In NYC, benefits are sent out during the first two weeks of the month, over the 13 days that are not Sundays or holidays. The specific dates change from one month to the next, so NYC publishes a six-month schedule showing the exact availability dates. In all other counties outside NYC, benefits are sent out over the first 9 days of every month, based on the last digit of your case number.

Reporting Changes

To report changes such as income adjustments, household size, or address updates, contact your local DSS office or call the New York SNAP hotline at 1-800-342-3009.

Replacing a Lost or Stolen EBT Card

If your EBT card is lost or stolen, immediately call the New York EBT customer service at 1-888-328-6399 to report it and request a replacement.
